3 Minute Monday
I recorded 4 Modern Wisdom Cinema episodes in London and had 2 laser eye surgery procedures this week.
Rather intense, but I have survived, and now I can read things without squinting!
Anyway, last week I gave a bunch of talks in Brighton and recited one of my favourite passages as a part of one of them.
It bears repeating because there is no such thing as reading this too many times…
Here is a list of things that are not doing the thing:
“Preparing to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Scheduling time to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Making a to-do list for the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Telling people you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Messaging friends who may or may not be doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Writing a banger tweet about how you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Hating on yourself for not doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Hating on other people who have done the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Hating on the obstacles in the way of doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Fantasising about all of the adoration you’ll receive once you do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Reading about how to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Reading about how other people did the thing isn’t doing the thing.
Reading this essay isn’t doing the thing.
The only thing that is doing the thing is doing the thing.” — Strangest Loop
In Hormozi’s words…
“Instead of spending time “getting in the mood to work”… just start working.
Confront the work.
People think they need perfect conditions to start when in reality, starting is the perfect condition.”
Go do the thing.
This week’s upcoming episodes:
Stan Efferding – the world’s strongest bodybuilder drops some knowledge bombs on how to build muscle, lose fat, improve longevity and more.
Shaan Puri – 7 semi-controversial lessons about success from one of my favourite thinkers. For fans of Hormozi, George Mack & Gurwinder Bhogal, this is a banger.
Vincent Harinam – one of my good friends lost his job at a very prestigious UK university after appearing on modern Wisdom. We conduct a post-mortem on his academic cancellation and the state of modern dating. Don’t miss.
THINGS I’VE LEARNED
40% of women make a mess.
“40% of US adult women had ever squirted in their lifetime, usually for the first time in their mid-twenties.
Two thirds of women reported unintentional discovery of squirting, and most (75%) used specific techniques to promote build up and release of squirting versus squirting spontaneously.
About 60% of participants reported squirting to be very or somewhat pleasurable, but only 20% “always” experienced squirting and orgasm together.
Women reported different challenges with squirting, such as the time required to reach squirting or the experience being too emotionally intense.
The survey was conducted on a nationally representative data sample of women aged 18-93.” — h/t Justin Lehmiller
Ryan Holiday’s keys to a productive life…
Wake up early.
Make a little progress everyday.
Say no (a lot).
Learn from your mistakes.
Pick yourself back up when you slip.
Waste no time measuring yourself against other people.
Some haters are your secret fans.
“You have not truly ascended in your craft to a certain level of mastery until people who have no love for or positive inclination towards you learn from you in secret.
There is no greater sign of respect than the recognition that comes from those who give you no credit.” — Illimitable Man
Laser Eye Surgery.
It may be too early to say with certainty, but I’m pretty sure I can see your DNA and ancestral trauma at 100 yards with these new eyeballs of mine.
